Obtaining and retaining professional licensure is the crucial keystone for all professionals, representing their lifeline to practicing and enabling them to grow a successful business. Professional licensure represents more than permission to practice in your industry; it requires a significant investment of time, effort, and capital, and is foundational to your professional reputation. Professionals that face hearings before the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s various state licensing boards are concerned with more than just a professional license; many times they are protecting their careers and reputations within their industries and communities.

Post & Schell’s Professional Licensure Practice Group represents a wide range of professionals in Pennsylvania licensure issues. The Group’s attorneys possess extensive experience in representing licensed professionals including:

  • Medical professionals
  • Attorneys
  • Pharmacists
  • Accountants and tax preparers
  • Funeral home and crematory professionals
  • Real estate agents
  • Engineers

From revocations and suspension hearings, to professional disciplinary and reciprocity hearings, our attorneys provide experienced counsel and representation to help protect your professional license.

Representative Matters

Post & Schell’s Professional Licensure Practice Group has successfully represented hundreds of professionals in every step of the process, from investigation through final hearing.  While the outcomes before the various licensing boards are not published, our attorneys have been one of the few to challenge the various licensing boards on appeal.  A few representative examples include:

  • A case in which the Commonwealth Court found that the State Board of Medicine deprived Post & Schell’s client, a practicing physician, of her due process rights in attempting to sanction our client without proper notice.
  • A case in which Post & Schell represented a funeral director operating in Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth Court found that the State Board of Funeral Directors improperly interpreted the Funeral Director Law and that our client did not violate the same.
  • A case in which the Commonwealth Court found that the State Board of Medicine deprived our client, a practicing physician, of his due process rights in attempting to automatically sanctioning our client without a hearing or proof of an immediate risk to the public.
