Remembering Barton "Bart" Post, Co-Founder of Post & Schell, P.C.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Barton “Bart” Post, co-founder of Post & Schell, P.C., who died on August 10, 2025, at the age of 95.
Mr. Post was a pioneering attorney, entrepreneur, and mentor whose legacy continues to shape the legal community in Philadelphia and beyond. In 1968, he co-founded Post & Schell, P.C. with Albert J. Schell and together they built a firm renowned for its excellence in complex litigation and its unwavering commitment to client service.
At Post & Schell, he cultivated a family-oriented work culture, where lawyers and staff thrived. He encouraged young attorneys to pursue their passions, leading to the creation of new practice areas at the firm. Following a stellar legal career marked by his zealous representation and advocacy on behalf of physicians, hospitals and health care providers, Mr. Post became one of the few attorneys inducted into the prestigious College of Physicians of Philadelphia – a distinction he deeply cherished.
“Bart led by example and his work ethic and courtroom prowess were legendary. He mentored and provided opportunity to so many, and his concern was never his own personal interests or success, but rather the interests of his clients and the success and strong continuation of the firm he and Albert Schell established. As a firm, I believe we continue to benefit and draw strength from Bart’s legacy,” said A. James Johnston, President and CEO of Post & Schell, P.C.
Mr. Post’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond the legal field. After retiring from the practice of law in 2000, he founded a corporate daycare center and an insurance company to support physicians struggling with malpractice coverage. His efforts helped keep medical professionals in Philadelphia during challenging times.
While we mourn Mr. Post’s loss, we remain profoundly grateful for the indelible mark he left – as a visionary leader, trusted mentor and cherished friend. We extend our condolences to his family.
