Former AUSA Eric L. Gibson Joins Post & Schell as Principal and Chair of the Firm's White Collar Defense Practice Group

Philadelphia, PA – January 31, 2023 – Post & Schell, P.C. is pleased to announce that Eric L. Gibson has joined the firm as a Principal and the new Chair of the firm’s Internal Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice Group, resident in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Mr. Gibson’s practice will focus on counseling and defending clients, including companies, organizations, and individuals, subject to inquiry, investigation, or prosecution – civil or criminal – by federal, state, or local government authorities.

Mr. Gibson joins Post & Schell from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) where he most recently served in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) and Deputy Chief of the Corruption and Civil Rights Unit. In that capacity, he supervised an elite unit that investigated and prosecuted public officials at all levels of government for racketeering, election fraud, financial fraud, bribery, and money laundering, among other charges.

“We welcome Eric as a strategic addition to our White Collar Practice Group,” said A. James Johnston, President and Chief Executive Officer of Post & Schell, P.C. “During his tenure with the DOJ and other government agencies, Eric garnered a reputation for handling complex and sensitive investigations and prosecutions. As Chair of our White Collar Practice Group, his insight and experience will benefit clients facing government investigation, audit, subpoena, and search warrant, as well as compliance challenges.”

“I am eager and excited to join Post & Schell and Chair a practice group of attorneys I have held in high regard for many years,” said Mr. Gibson. “The collaboration across practices and between attorneys offered a unique place for me to begin and grow my private practice and meet the needs of the firm’s clients in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, energy and utilities, construction, and pharmaceuticals, among others.”

“I’m delighted to welcome Eric as Chair and a new member of our group,” noted Ronald H. Levine, former Chair and now Senior Counsel to Post & Schell’s White Collar Practice Group. “In his award-winning tenure with the government, Eric was selected to take on only the toughest cases brought by DOJ: public corruption, civil rights, and complex fraud/money laundering. My personal experience at trial versus Eric corroborates his excellence: smart, aggressive, and fair. Eric brings tremendous value-added experience to the counseling and defense of our clients.”

Prior to his tenure at the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Mr. Gibson served in Washington, D.C. as a Trial Attorney in both the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section and the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. While at the DOJ, he briefed Attorneys General as well as Assistant Attorneys General in both the Criminal and Civil Rights Divisions, and also interacted with agencies and offices across the federal government including the Federal Election Commission, the Department of Homeland Security, the Central Intelligence Agency, the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and the White House.

Before serving in the DOJ, Mr. Gibson served as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia for over a decade in various roles including the elite Special Investigations Unit.

Mr. Gibson was honored in 2008 with the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service. In 2009, he received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and, in 2016, he was awarded the Assistant Attorney General’s Criminal Division Award for Exceptional Service. He was also recognized twice by the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) “for demonstrated excellence in successfully prosecuting major criminal cases.”

A 1995 graduate of Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law, Mr. Gibson also holds his B.A. degree in Sociology from Villanova University. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Villanova University’s Sociology and Criminology Department.
