Post & Schell’s Abe Rein, Chair of the Federal Criminal Law Committee for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Welcomes U.S. Attorney David Metcalf
The Federal Criminal Law Committee for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (“FCLC”) recently hosted E.D.Pa. U.S. Attorney David Metcalf and First Assistant Derek Hines for an address on Metcalf’s priorities and what he hopes the office will achieve under his leadership. Post & Schell partner Abe Rein, who leads the FCLC – a group whose membership is limited to criminal defense professionals – said in introductory remarks that the gathering of prosecutors and defense lawyers is part of an “important tradition in the Eastern District,” a tradition that involves “openness, willingness to get together and talk, collegiality.” He commented that that tradition is more likely to lead to more just outcomes for defendants in the District, adding, “I am grateful that, even in divided times, we can continue in that mode, and come together for a civil discussion between prosecution and defense.”
U.S. Attorney Metcalf, who was accompanied by a team of his office’s Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs, used the address to roll out his new “White Collar Justice Program,” a trio of initiatives designed to lead to greater and more hard-hitting white collar criminal enforcement. He described an aggressive enforcement philosophy, expansion of his office, and a focus on healthcare fraud. More details on Metcalf’s address can be found here.
