Post & Schell Attorneys Sarah Yerger, Abe Rein and Jason Reimer Present on Social Media Legal and Reputational Risks at May 14 ACC Seminar

May 14, 2015

Post & Schell Principal Sarah C. Yerger, and Associates Abraham J. Rein and Jason L. Reimer presented the CLE seminar,"Keep Calm and Carry On: Corporate Management in the Social Media Age," on May 14 in Hershey, PA.

Sponsored by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) of Central Pennsylvania, the seminar examined the explosion of social media and its current and future impact on corporations. For companies, the instant and viral nature of social media presents significant challenges. Legal and reputational risks may arise from any number of issues on a variety of social media forums and sites. Companies are left struggling to manage the quickly evolving risks presented by social media – and asking, “How do we respond?”

The program explored various real world scenarios – including the case of U.S. v. Elonis, currently before the Supreme Court of the United States, on which Mr. Rein worked and which examines the application of the First Amendment on Facebook.

The program also:

  • Analyzed the key legal issues relating to the delicate balance between workers’ privacy and protecting employer information/security
  • Examined how employers decide how intensely to restrict, monitor and scrutinize employees and applicants both inside and outside the workplace’s physical and virtual walls
  • Examined employers’ rights to limit and act on employees’ personal social networking site postings.
