Stacey M. Zavalas
Stacey M. Zavalas is a Principal in the Firm’s Insurance Law Department. Ms. Zavalas’ national and broad-based insurance coverage practice encompasses the representation of insurance companies in litigation throughout the country involving complex coverage disputes, including general liability, bad faith, environmental property damage, additional insured issues, farm liability, asbestos, toxic tort, construction issues, property damage, bodily injury, personal and advertising injury, death and dismemberment, homeowners’ issues, nursing home cases, and other coverage disputes.
Ms. Zavalas consults with clients on many pre-litigation issues, providing clients with coverage opinions on various issues, drafting reservation of rights and coverage position letters and conducting direct negotiations with policyholders when necessary. Ms. Zavalas frequently gets involved in the settlement of underlying cases on behalf of primary and excess insurers. She represents clients in various methods of alternative dispute resolution. Additionally, she advises clients on issues related to the allocation of losses to general liability and excess liability policies.
Ms. Zavalas has represented insurer clients in cases involving multi-million dollar exposures for pollution liability, asbestos, and other toxic substances, commercial disparagement, and other property damage claims in cases filed throughout the country. She has provided counsel to clients in many cases seeking reimbursement of defense and indemnity costs under additional insured provisions in insurance policies. She has counseled clients regarding insurance issues relating to personal injury and property damages involving Confined Animal Feeding Operations. Additionally, Ms. Zavalas also represents clients in direct negotiations with EPA, environmental consultants, and various state and environmental departments.
